History of the Souris Multi Sport Relay

In 1986, the Souris Multi Sport Relay was begun by the Souris and Area Industrial Commission as part of the Souris Regatta.

The idea was to bring together local athletes and encourage youth and adults to get physically fit.

The route originally was throughout the country side from Souris to Fortune River and back to Souris.

There were 50 teams the first year, with a large number of local teams.  The route has now become more centralized with all three legs returning to the same starting point.  It is a very unique event in that it has become more of an Ironman event in the last number of years.

The Glen Deveau Memorial Trophy was initiated in 1993 in honor of Glen Deveau, who was a member of the winning local team for a number of years.  The relay was coordinated by the Deveau Family since 1993 thru until 2006.
